Dear Mount Washington School Community,
It is with great honor and excitement that I announce my appointment as the new Principal of The Mount Washington School. It has been a pleasure to serve this community over the past year and I am eager to continue in service to our school as we move into the future.
My passion for education and belief in supporting the learning of all children has been shaped throughout my life. Over the past 13 years I have worked as a Social Studies Teacher, Department Chair, Lead Teacher, Dean of Students, District Level Administrator/Coach, and Resident Principal. Through these experiences I have worked to develop myself as a leader and the culmination of that work has resulted in my opportunity to lead at The Mount Washington School.
As we end the school year I want to recognize the leadership provided by Ashley Cook and Carolyn Cole throughout this school year. Their leadership has been invaluable to the school and my learning throughout my residency. As we plan for the upcoming school year, we have many things to be excited about within our work with students. First, The Mount Washington School will be adopting Restorative Practice as a schoolwide practice as a Baltimore City Public Schools Intensive Site. This will support our work to ensure all students are provided with opportunities for social-emotional development. In addition, we will continue to develop our IB Middle Years Program to ensure our Middle School Students receive a rigorous program of study in preparation for high school. I will also work throughout the school year to ensure the climate and culture of the school reflects that all students, staff and stakeholders are respected, supported and valued.
I look forward to the exciting future we have ahead of us at The Mount Washington School as we work to transform all students into creative, reflective, and analytical problem-solvers who are compassionate and prepared to compete and persevere in an evolving world. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, concerns or ideas that you would like to discuss.
Mark LaLonde, Principal
