The Mount Washington School, a K-8 Baltimore City Public School, provides an enriched learning environment that has helped countless students get ahead.  The Mount Washington School transforms students into creative, reflective, and analytical problem-solvers who are compassionate and prepared to compete and persevere in an evolving world.


MWS expanded to a K-8 school with students housed in two buildings, the Upper Building on Sulgrave Avenue and the Lower Building, the former Shrine School Building on Smith Avenue. The student population is culturally diverse: 67% African American, 22% White, 2% Asian, Latino and American Indian.


MWS major accomplishments include:

  • Ryan Kaiser named the Baltimore City Teacher of the Year and the Maryland State Teacher of the Year (2015); 

  • Designated Middle Years Programme: International Baccalaureate Organization (2014);


  • Maryland and U.S. Blue Ribbon School of Excellence award (2011);


  • Maryland Green School (2010, 2014);


  • Completed the Outdoor Classroom, a 26,250 square foot play area, classroom, and amphitheater (2010);


  • Met Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) every year with students performing at or above proficient on classroom, local, and state assessments.
